プロフィール

David Ahn specializes in mergers and acquisitions (M&A), joint ventures, corporate investment, intellectual property, general corporate law, as well as international arbitration and litigation across multiple jurisdictions. For about 30 years, Mr. Ahn has practiced at leading law firms, advising numerous multinational corporations on complex transactions and dispute resolution.

Mr. Ahn has also served as a senior executive and General Counsel at major global companies based in Hong Kong, Singapore, and Korea, including Applied Materials, LG.Philips Displays International, and UPS. Through these roles, he accumulated extensive experience in in-house legal management and corporate decision-making, enabling him to deliver practical and strategic solutions to the complex legal issues faced by global enterprises.

[International Dispute Resolution]


  • Counsel in a SIAC arbitration seated in Singapore in relation to one of the largest mixed use (IFC Seoul and conrad hotel) real estate acquisitions in Korea in the amount of US$1.5 billion

  • Counsel to Korea-based Mirae Asset in relation to a US$5.8 billion acquisition of 15 US luxury hotels from a Chinese insurance company. Defended Mirae Asset in the Delaware Chancery Court and the Delaware State Supreme Court and secured complete wins in both Courts

  • As in-house counsel, successfully defended and settled civil and criminal cases for landmark IP infringement claims by a major semi-conductor manufacturer/customer in Korea

  • Counsel in an ICC arbitration seated in Geneva arising from tradename disputes under license agreements with a luxury consumer brand in France

  • Counsel in an UNCITRAL arbitration seated in Geneva arising from intellectual property disputes over license agreements involving global accounting firms based in Switzerland

  • Counsel in a LCIA arbitration seated in Vancouver arising from shareholders' disputes under share transfer agreements amongst Korean companies


[Corporate / Mergers & Acquisitions]


  • Worked as part of the corporate executive leadership team at multinational companies in Hong Kong, Singapore and Korea and advised on various legal and corporate strategic issues. Managed and completed multiple corporate transactions and compliance matters involving commercial transactions, corporate training on IP, HR, governance and security

  • Represented Korea Deposit Insurance Corporation for stock sale of Korea Life Insurance Co., Ltd. to Hanwha entities, Orix Corporation and Macquarie Life Limited

  • Represented Hynix Semiconductor Inc. in non-memory semiconductor business sales to Citigroup Venture Capital

  • Represented Prudential Group in its acquisition of Young Poong Life Insurance Co., Ltd. and continued to advise on post M&A integration work

  • Represented Asahi Glass Co., Ltd. in auto-glass joint venture project with Kumgang Korea Chemical Co., Ltd

  • Represented Samsung Tesco Home Plus, a retailer joint venture between Samsung Group and Tesco Plc, in its real estate projects

  • Represented Korea Telecom Corporation and Korea Telecom Powertel Co., Ltd. in share subscription by Nextel International Investment Company

  • Represented Hankook Tire Co., Ltd. in a major tire manufacturing and supply business and strategic alliance project with Michelin

  • Represented Ferro Corporation in a power coating business joint venture project with LG Chem, Ltd

  • Represented CJ39 Shopping Co., Ltd., in home shopping joint venture business with a Chinese broadcasting company

  • Represented Hyundai Engineering and Construction Co., Ltd., Hyundai Motor Company, Hyundai Corporation etc., in real estate projects in the PRC with private equity firm, Hines Partnership

  • Represented Bain & Company in its acquisition of ChipPAC Korea, Inc., by way of a spin-off from Hynix Semiconductor Inc

  • Represented Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. in wholesale business acquisitions of Korea Macro and conducted post-closing commercial transactions for Wal-Mart’s business implementation in Korea

  • Represented CDL Hotels International Limited and Hong Leong Management Services Pte Ltd. in acquisition of Hilton Hotel (Seoul) from Daewoo Group

  • Represented S.C. Johnson and Son, Inc. and Korea Johnson Co., Ltd. in an asset deal with Sam Sung Pharmaceutical Industry, Co
